The result of the trials started in 2002 with Poncirus Trifoliata var. monstrosa finally coming into production..

1 million trees grafted on Poncirus Trifoliata var. monstrosa or Flying Dragon have been planted ready for the 2011-2012 season

This is a very difficult rootstock for the nurseryman to graft because it grows in a crooked and tangled way, but it imparts great advantages to the scion.

“Flying Dragon” is a dwarfing rootstock and because of this will be much easier to keep healthy in a small pot. At the same time it is more resistant to root disease, which is the probably the main care problem you will encounter.
Also because it is deciduous it imparts much more cold tolerance to the scion which remains evergreen all the year.

Notice that the rootstock is much thicker than the scion.

Viveiros do Foral Lda considers this introduction a major advance in providing the customer with the very best ornamental citrus plant that can be found in the European market today.
